2020 US Open champion: Dominic Thiem

"I wish you would have missed a little more so I could hold that trophy up, but here I am giving the runner-up speech."

An emotional Alexander Zverev gets through his runner-up speech with kind words for Thiem and his team after that battle. We have no doubt that the German will have more chances to play for a big trophy in the future.

Zverev saves two match points and we're at 6-6.

After a lengthy rally on the first, Thiem misses a forehand in the net, and despite a 68 mph second serve, the German manages to win the next point for 6-6.

"Six games all, final set, tiebreak."

No other words needed. Zverev breaks back himself, and here we go.

Not so fast!

A three game swing in favor of the Austrian now sees him serving for the match at 6-5. Stat check: Zverev never reached championship point.

To the line to serve for the title: Alexander Zverev.

A break in the eight game goes the way of the German, and he will serve for the match at 5-3 in the fifth.

After falling down an early break to start the fifth, Zverev digs in.

He breaks back immediately and hold with a big fist pump, and he's in front 2-1 at the changeover. His player box is certainly loving it too.

Two words: FIFTH SET.

From two sets and a break down. No. 2 seed Dominic Thiem is level. A double fault and a forehand error from Zverev hand the Austrian a break to lead 5-3, and he serves out set four emphatically to send us the distance.
